Please don't think we're having fun at your expense - we really are a bunch of baseball nuts and enjoy discussing the finer points, of which groundskeeping covers many. Congratulations on your new job. I speak for all of us Heatherfans in hoping you can find the time to answer our questions.
As the keeper of this page, I just want you to know that even though we are having fun with it, it in no way is meant to belittle your hard work and accomplishments. We are all true baseball fans, and love the game and everything connected with it dearly. I sincerely hope you find the page , at the very least amusing, and would love for you to contribute.
To our blessed Turf Goddess, Congratulations on your new job as head groundskeeper. I wish you the best in this new venture of yours. May your rakes never go rusty and the mowers always cut sharp (I don't know).
Congratulations on reaching the pinnacle of your profession. As a devoted baseball fan, I respect the importance of your hard earned position. Your responsibilities to protect and maintain the playing field and to protect the safety of the players are vital to the success of our national pastime. I am sure that the grounds at Tiger Stadium and at Comerica Park in 2000 will be in great hands. Even though you will be extremely busy, I hope that you will have an opportunity to correspond with us on the inner game of groundskeeping.
Congratulations on your move to the Tigers. I hope that everything goes well for you in your new position and that Dean Palmer doesn't attempt to use you as a scapegoat for his shoddy fielding. I remember when a friend of mine mentioned that his college major was turf management and my first though was, "What the heck can a person ever do with that degree?" Well, he ended up getting a job at Stanford as their groundskeeper and he is very happy with it. I didn't realize there were so many opportunities in this field, but with all the parks, sporting fields, and golf courses out there the opportunities are numerous. Hopefully you've opened the eyes of some people about the responsibilities and prerequisites that come with being a head groundskeeper for a professional sports team. Like many occupations one must bring a lot of knowledge and experience to the table to be successful. With your education and previous job you obviously have both and will surely do great. Again, congratulations and best of luck.
I have the utmost respect for the Tigers for hiring this brillant woman. I hope to see plenty of Heather on Sportscenter this year. If anyone ever comes up to you and says simply "Advantage", you can pretty safely bet it is me. All professional lawn techicians know that this is the chemical used to kill nutgrass. There is nothing that I hate more than nutgrass.
Congratulations! Reaching the pinnacle of your chosen profession takes both determination and dedication. You've shown that you embody both of these qualities and I wish you all future success. As the only female of our rag-tag group I am especially proud that someone has broken ranks at the major league level. By spending every day in a ball park, you are living out my dreams!
As one of the Turf Heads, I look forward to going to Tiger Stadium and watching a baseball game. I also hope to be able to meet you and congratulate you in person on your accomplishments. All of us who are a part of your unofficial fan club are all true baseball fans who want to learn about all aspects of the game including one that is often overlooked.
Thanks to Heather for an extra special final year at Tiger Stadium. The Turf
never looked more green coming through the tunnel.
I was fortunate enough to make several games this year, including the final
game at the Corner. It was good to see the turf look like it did when I
first went to the stadium when I was 8 years old.
Good luck in the new stadium next year.
